Jana Wassong is a multidisciplinary scenographer, stage & costume designer. She studied stage and costume design at the Toneelacademie Maastricht and the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona. After completing her studies, she was engaged by the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin as assistant to Bert Neumann. Wassong has designed stages for numerous renowned theatres, including the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Schauspiel Leipzig, Münchner Volkstheater, Staatstheater Hannover, Volksbühne Berlin, and Schauspielhaus Zürich. As an artistic collaborator, she has worked with visual artists Ragnar Kjartansson and Jonathan Meese. She has an ongoing collaboration with the Berlin festival Pop-Kultur, for which she designs scenographies for musicians as part of the Commissioned Works program. Her work has been selected for Radikal Jung in 2015, "Das Tierreich", as well as productions such as "Hedda Gabler" (2020) and "Gymnasium" (2022). In 2015, her production "der 2.tod eines kollektivs oder die wunderbare welt des rainer werner fassbinder" (Volksbühne Berlin) was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen. Further nominations for the Berlin Theatertreffen followed with "Gymnasium" (2022), "Keine Sorge (Religion)" (2024), and "Romeo & Julia" (2026). In 2024, she was named “Best Stage Design” in Theater heute’s critics’ survey for "Keine Sorge (Religion)".
